ABSTRACT
Traumatic ulcer is an ulcerative lesion of the oral mucosa caused by local trauma, either mechanical, chemical, or thermal injury. Mechanical trauma such as irritation from sharp-textured food, overly vigorous toothbrushing, or other irritants may lead to mucosal damage, triggering an inflammatory response and causing discomfort. This case report presents a 23-year-old female patient who came to Soelastri Dental Hospital (RSGM Soelastri) with complaints of pain and discomfort in the oral mucosa. Clinical examination revealed a lesion on the anterior labial mucosa of the upper lip, appearing as a single oval ulcer with a whitish-yellow base surrounded by erythema, measuring 2–3 mm in diameter, with well-defined borders, irregular surface, soft consistency, and painful on palpation. The diagnosis was traumatic ulcer caused by mechanical trauma. Management included the elimination of the causative factors and topical application of Triamcinolone acetonide 0.1% for five days. At one-week follow-up, clinical improvement of the ulcer was observed without swelling, and the patient reported increased comfort while eating. In conclusion, elimination of mechanical factors combined with topical corticosteroid (triamcinolone acetonide 0.1%) proved effective in accelerating the healing of traumatic ulcers and reducing patient discomfort.
