ABSTRACT
Dental caries is a disease of tooth tissue characterized by tissue damage that starts at the tooth surface and extends towards the pulp. Globally, dental caries remains a significant health issue, particularly in preschool children, with an incidence rate of 60– 90%. One of the contributing factors to dental caries in toddlers is the habit of consuming sweet drinks. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between sweet drink consumption and dental caries in children aged 24–60 months. This observational analytical research applied a cross-sectional design and was conducted at TK Aisyiyah Joyosuran in February 2025. The study population included all toddlers at the school, and the sample consisted of 61 children selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Caries Severity Index (CSI) and the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test. The results revealed a significant relationship between sweet drink consumption and dental caries in children aged 24–60 months. Most respondents had low sugary drink consumption, but still experienced moderate tooth decay. In conclusion, sugary drink consumption is significantly associated with the incidence of tooth decay in preschool children.
