ABSTRACT
Candida albicans is an opportunistic fungus commonly found in the oral cavity and is the main etiological agent of oral candidiasis. Prolonged use of synthetic antifungal agents may cause side effects and resistance, highlighting the need for safer natural alternatives. Soursop (Annona muricata L.) peel contains bioactive compounds with potential antifungal properties. This study aimed to analyze the inhibitory effect of soursop peel extract (Annona muricata L.) at concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% against the growth of C. albicans in vitro, and to determine the extract concentration that produced the largest inhibitory effect. This laboratory experimental study employed a post-test only control group design. The antifungal activity of soursop peel extract was evaluated using the disc diffusion method at concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, with five replications for each group. Sterile aquadest was used as a negative control, while nystatin served as a positive control. The diameter of the inhibition zone was measured as the primary parameter. The results showed that soursop peel extract exhibited antifungal activity against C. albicans. No inhibition zone was observed at the 25% concentration, while inhibition zones were observed at concentrations of 50%, 75%, and 100%, with the largest mean inhibition zone found at the 100% concentration. Statistical analysis indicated significant differences among the treatment groups. Soursop peel extract (Annona muricata L.) at concentrations of 50%, 75%, and 100% exhibited inhibitory activity against the growth of C. albicans, with the 100% concentration producing the largest inhibitory effect.
